Well its def a good time to buy new TV's. i havent bought one yet as i am waiting for CES to finish. with the new line of TV's older models will get much cheaper. Smart TV's are being marketed heavily so prices will drop, but if you buy a "dumb" tv with no internet and app connectivity then you can buy a media streamer with the money you saved. i dont know how tech savvy you are but there are a ton of options and custom DIY stuff. Google tv is definitely on my list, they have been updating it and more companies are jumping on the bandwagon increasing support. i like having an external media streamer specially like Roku This works well specially if you travel alot. you can bring this small box and if you are at a hotel with wifi then you got all your services with you.

EDIT

heres a good link. that Vizio TV they have is crazy, 240hz is kind of overkill, personally i think 120hz is more than enough.

that should help your decision. dont forget to look at the specs page.

If you have HBO subscription make sure the set you get can download HBOGO app. its so worth it. this is why i said maybe reserve for a dumb tv and get an external streamer

fwiw, I opted to buy a "non-smart" TV because I have my PS3 and my laptop for apps and to surf the web, which can both be hooked up via a HDMI cable.

it will be even more awesome when Game of Thrones comes back. sometimes with all the accessibility for the content i am second guessing paying for my cable box/dvr. its an extra 20 a month i could be saving.

There was some legal proceedings against Netflix before their price hike that involved the cable companies, dvd sales and movie makers against them. There was a point in time that Netflix was killing everyone and people were canceling cable and keeping internet. I did that myself to save money and since all that crap played out Netflix was forced to hike up their prices, dvd's are now delayed to Netflix to improve sales and cable companies stopped giving Netflix access to their shows like Dexter, Californication.. etc. You can get all those HBO shows via HBO GO since they like to keep their subscriptions active which you need to use HBO GO. I still cancel premium channels when my favorite shows are not being aired. It's insane to pay 100+ just to watch tv and have internet. That comes out to over 1200 a year JUST TO WATCH TV!!! LOL
