Currently trying to add "modern" wheels and tires, front suspension, and brakes to an oldie...

Was just wondering how you like the Shoei xr-1100 you bought. I see that Shoei no longer produces this model and wonder how long parts will be available. Like for example vents, shields and inside pads. Locally I can purchase the xr-1100 for 314€ and the NXR for 417€. The UK helmet rating site rates both and the XR-1100 has the next step better side impact. The manuals show them to be similar. The biggest difference seems to be the XR-1100 has replaceable vents. Can you wear glasses with the XR-1100? Do you know what year the XR-1100 was discontinued?

Like for example vents, shields and inside pads. I like the 1100, but with the onset of winter, I haven't been able to try it on the bike yet. It is a nice snug fit. The venting appears to be improved. The shield has been redesigned to be spring loaded. (No more adjusting to eliminate wind noise and drafts.) I have never had any problems getting shields or pads for older helmets.

The biggest difference seems to be the XR-1100 has replaceable vents. I've never had to replace a vent on a Shoei helmet. I suppose if you banged it into something it might be possible to break one, but I think that is unlikely.

Can you wear glasses with the XR-1100? I wore sunglasses with my old 1000. I haven't tried them with the 1100, but I see no reason why I wouldn't be able to. I do know that I have to be a little careful to pick a frame with straight arms so it is easier to slide the glasses on after putting the helmet on.

Do you know what year the XR-1100 was discontinued? I do not.

Riche-

The RF1200 was new in late 2013, so that must be when the RF1100 was discontinued.

The RF1200 comes with a pin-lock shield which is a plus in my book. The pin-lock shield and insert is $80. I will have to order one for my RF1100, as it didn't come with it.
