Sorry Honda
And what I have learned after my 1st day on the Hyundai forum, it's filled with unhappy Honda owners
I'm just sayin...

Hyundai can never be a Honda. They can be a bigger, more successful chaebol, but can never be a Honda or replace Honda's achievements.
They need a passionate founder, the ability to time and again pick themselves up by their bootstraps and a history of motor racing.
Just like Lamborghini can never be Ferrari, Hyundai will never be Honda.
Again speaking for myself, I dont have a void in my garage that needs to be filled. Even if there were a used Honda (either an AP1 or CR, or an EP3) would fulfill the need.
Hyundai has great marketing and is making good products, but it lacks the passion that I seek from a brand. Honda could very well sink into oblivion or perhaps turn into a Toyota. When that day comes and all is lost, I may look at Hyundai. For the time being though, I'm happy with the Honda products I own and am glad that I'm not part of the group you are identifying as disappoitned with Honda totally.

Also, the 9th Gen Civic as I understand it is 2012, so it could have been on that list if it is indeed a list of new/redesigned cars for 2012

^ ^ ^ The CR-V was not a new model in 2012 was it?

.
Wake up call for sure, although it may go unheeded.
Im not surprised Honda is not on the list. All their recent models have received a lot of flak. Even if they started turning things around now it will easily take 5-10 years (two model cycles) before they can get back to where they are.

I'm not denying the greatness of Honda's achievements, after all I own 3 of them
It's just the sadness of their current stuff is a bigger issue than I thought

I would like to believe if they see the light, they can make a change and hit one right out of the park on it's 1st year
But, sadly, I suspect you are right and it will take more tie like you indicated

I agree. The platforms and ideas are good, the implementation is piss poor and quality is suffering.
On another note my BIL and friends got to drive some exotic cars while in Vegas for a birthday celebration. Of all the cars they drove, the Ferrari 458 Italia was unanimously voted as the best experience ever. List included Gallardo, Murcielago, R8, SLR McLaren and some kind of Aston Martin.
It occurred to me that there has to be something special about the 458 when a half-dozen 40-somethings who have no motorsports experience, unanimously picked the one car over the rest. The only thing common to all is they drive BMW's, granny-style as they have to carry kids in the back.
