How much profit do you think a gas station makes on a gallon of gas?
The little store near me sold 4,000-gallons of gas on Sunday...
I know this because they were out of gas this morning and they were filled up on Saturday
Wow...

I think gas is a high volume, low margin thing. They get a greater return from selling products in the store. Atleast thats what I was told by someone that was doing a project in that industry.

So is your low margin thing 1¢ per gallon, 2¢, 4¢, 8¢, what's your guess using a specific number?

I wish for the life of me i could remember what we paid for fuel when I used to work on the docks at a marina. We'd get the invoice in along with how many gallons we received. I'm pretty sure the price of the fuel was on there too.
Summer of '98 we were charging $1.40 for mid-grade. The price never changed all summer long. Diesel was the same IIRC.

At 12¢ they made (4,000 x 12¢) less than $500 profit
