Phew, definitely a slow day I did about 2 hours today, almost a 100 miles. Great day for a cruise!

WHAT THE HELL, WILL IT EVER F'ING END...
I'm so pissed
On the way to work this morning one of those digital road signs was set up next to the E. River Rd bridge that crosses over the thruway
This is the bridge I use all the time, the one that was closed last year from June to November
It seems as of 6/27 they are closing it again
They could build a f'ing new bridge in the time they have had
Another who;le summer of a long and ugly detour
I'm so pissed

Been doing some digging I can't find any new news, just facts from last year
I was wrong, it was closed until December, so from 6/21/10 to 12/6/10 it was closed
Now on 6/27/11 it is closing again, if it goes till December again I'm going to have a breakdown...

For Immediate Release: December 6, 2010

Thruway Authority Announces East River Road Bridge Re-opened
Construction Work Completed in Town of Henrietta

The New York State Thruway Authority has announced the re-opening of the East River Road Bridge in the Town of Henrietta, between Brooks Road and Erie Station Road on Monday, December 6, 2010.

The bridge had been closed to vehicle traffic on June 21 to permit the reconstruction of the underlying support system.

The East River Road Bridge crosses over the Thruway (I-90) at milepost 364.74, approximately 2.5 miles west of Thruway Interchange 46 in the Rochester area.

The Thruway Authority appreciates motorists’ patience during this time.

The mileage addition to just go around the closed bridge is 4.5 miles, mind you my normal commute is only 11 miles so this is a big increase, bit the big thing is not the miles, it's the time increase. When I make the detour it sort of makes more sense to just head into downtown on a different road, one with a gazillion more signal lights, not nearly as fun, and adds a lot of extra time to the drive.

And another part of this issue is it's a river road, and there are very few bridges crossing the Genesee River in this area, so the road has a high degree of commuter activity because there are so few alternate routes, therefore, the detour becomes consumed with a ton of traffic, and it takes in several signal lights. One of those lights is normally a short little wait, but the commute traffic means you can sit there through 3 or more cycles before you can even get through the intersection, so the wait can go from less than 1-minute to say 5 to 7-minutes waiting for your chance to get up to the light, a real bottleneck!

Last year I moved up my work schedule and was leaving the house before 6:30 just so I could reduce the traffic I had to deal with, looks like I have no choice but do that again.

The area I used to live near in Vermont had ALOT of detours due to the heavy winter and rains... one major road/bridge from NY to VT was washed out and closed back in May anyway.

Our waitress one night was telling me her commute nightmare... as the crow flies she lived about 18 miles away, but with the detour she had to take, it was over an hour of commute time.

Lots of stuff I do not like about the area I live in now but the freaking road system around here is freaking awesome!! I am 5, 10 and 20 minutes away from 3 major two lane highways (17, 84, 87) - nothing like that anywhere in Vermont, even Burlington
