2019 Mazda 3 hatchhback - yay or nay? I always thought the older gen cars including the current ones looked very nice, but I am not sure what to think about this. Something seems very odd aft of the rear doors. Couldn't they have gone with larger windows and improved visibility all around

Nay. C-pillars are WAY too thick and will cause visibility issues. I really detest how function has taken a backseat to form with new vehicle designs.
The other day I saw a new-er Range Rover (Evoque maybe?), and no joke, the rear window was probably no more than a foot in height. Tiny rear windows are for exotics, not hulking suburban trophy wife land barges.

This morning I went to the machine shop to pick up the second MGA block and crankshaft. Everything tested out OK so I will have these as spare parts.
One thing led to another, and I asked the owner if they were familiar with the S2000 engine. He indicated that he has done several S2000 engine rebuilds and/or modifications. I can't remember Joe's last name, but he was the S2000 racer with the yellow S2000 that we sometimes saw at Lime Rock. Apparently the shop worked on his race engine.
The shop is called Carlquist Competition Engines in Watertown, CT (Oakville section, I think). The owner is Bill Carlquist. They seem to know what they're doing (mainly race engines, modifications), so I'm passing the information along. I suppose that I would probably still want Billman as my first choice, but here is another option.
In other news, I spent several hours trying to weld up some 6 or 8 "slices" in the transmission tunnel cover for the Volvo. I modified the cover to make the opening for the transmission smaller It was not pretty, but eventually I got close enough to a reasonable product. I will fill the remaining pinholes with fiberglass / bondo.
Attached is a photo of the "before" condition with the cover (hard to identify) still in place.
And here it was with the cover removed.

My accomplishments were much smaller. Fixed a TP holder in the bathroom that came off. Then I attended an SCCA banquet and cheered those who won prizes and awards.
I think the yellow S2000 is Greg’s friend. I’ve never met him but have seen him post here and in New England. Was talking to someone at the banquet yesterday and he asked if I knew of a place locally that could perform corner balancing. I told him that to the best of my knowledge one had to go to New England for shops that specialize in such services. There may be an opportunity for someone. Maybe Semir can someday have an in ground alignment rack and offer corner balancing too.
Im seriously considering becoming an Apex Pro and G-Loc brakes dealer to earn some cash on the side.
