Watkins Glen 1967

1970 Can Am Watkins Glen - Gurney in a McLaren/Chevy

I think the only good thing about getting old is the fact that you have the memories back to times that today would seem extraordinary. I saw Gurney race at Watkins Glen a number of times along with his numerous projects after he retired from driving. I was there in 1967 for the Grand Prix, but not for the 1970 Can Am as I had just started a new job.
Try to imagine today starting your own F1 team as a driver owner! Gurney did it with style. Just living through this era of racing as a driver was an iffy proposition.

Dan, you took your last checkered flag as a winner

But of course I do. I'm not looking forward to one of those new cars, the self driving ones. BTW what do S2000 people think of them? If you get one will you be tracking it? If so what mode would you choose for your track day, Hamilton, Senna, Moss, Vettel, Räikkönen, Alonso, etc?
My neighbor tells me it has been some cold in the north of upstate. We have been around freezing mostly above with lots of rain. this week is the first with temps below, 20F (-7C) Maybe just maybe we get some snow this Thursday.

Thanks for your help A2.
Winter is warm mostly just not quite warm enough to put the top down on the winter car, (Mazda). The snow tires don't feel as good as the summer tires but are so worth it when hard pack snow is on the road and of course on the dirt roads.

Edit: wow didn't know about Gurney. There is a Gurney Eagle on display at the REVS Institute in Florida. If you have never been to the REVS it is worth a trip to Florida from upstate by it's self.

Great post Harry. I think you’ll also enjoy reading the first post on this thread in ARD.

The only Indycar I ever sat in was when the 1971 Gurney Olsonite Eagle came to the local Jamesway mall.
I have a pic of me in that car somewhere and built a model of it, which of course I later blew up with M80's with Hogan.
Dan Gurney was a real hero. He was on my bucket list of people I'd like to meet.
Current list now.
Buzz Aldrin
Jay Leno
Jack Nicklaus- (I was at St. Andrews in 70' when he won, but couldn't get close.)
Mario

BMW plans to charge owners a $80 subscription fee for Apple Car Play - At this rate they'll become the Ultimate Subscription Services company. Maybe they'll charge a subscription fee to use the performance mode in their cars after charging owners a couple grand to put it in their cars

While I'm forever going to be thankful for the BMWCCA instructor training I received, BMW stands for "bring money with"
