since replacement of my soft top... the joints make a lot of noise. i r disappoint.

Agreed. The reason I was looking at the Modifry straps was for the ease of install. The OEM straps apparently require you to pop out the rivets holding them to the bar, then re-drill.

How do you know when you need to replace the straps? I think mine are fine. One thing I have done since the car was new, is to give the top a little push up when retracting to help it fold. I believe this reduces the work the straps must do.

I could tell when the straps were going because I could now see part of the top not folding down all the way in my rear view mirror.
The edge of the top should barely be poking up above the trunklid. Mine sticks up a good 4-5" higher than it should. The elastic looks pretty stretched and worn.
There is no way the boot would fit over it.

I did the modifry straps last year. When I got the car in 2009 the stock straps were totally destroyed, hanging down from the top like a hammock. The modifry straps are better, but the top had been folding improperly for so long that I still have to pause when the top is half way down and make sure it is folding properly
Hopefully after some time doing it the right way I won't need to do that anymore.
