Well, daily transport is more essential and less of a luxury. Especially when you are talking about changing the daily transport with an eye towards financials.

If you're getting a toy, and you're very particular about it, then color can be more of a deciding factor. Especially if you're willing to wait.

I guess I could live with Silver but black or red is out!
That's good, that's a good step
I bought both my CRX's used
I approached each purchase the same
A- I have to have an Si
B- I will not even look at a black one

I just happened to end up with 2 red ones because I honestly think that was the most popular color...
I honestly don't think I'll ever buy a new car again. Let someone else take the hit for depreciation. When we bought the TSX, I asked my wife for her top 3 color choices and then went shopping. She got choice #2 with 19k miles on it for 2/3 the price of a new one. That was 3 years and 35K miles ago, and all we've done to the car is oil changes and a set of tires.

Bought my last two motorcycles used. The ST1100 had 1900 miles on it, the VFR had 636 miles. Paid about 1/2 of the price of a new one for each. Got more than 85% of my purchase price back when I sold the ST1100 after putting 20k miles on it.

Of the 17 vehicles I have bought, only 3 of them were bought new
I think for me buying new is based upon a simple question- can I find it used? If no then new
The S2000 had to be new, it just had too, screw logic
The Titan had to be new, I really wanted a Titan, I had to have one in '05, first model year '04s were even less reliable
The Frontier had to be new, finding a manual used was not going to happen
The hot hatch may have to be new, buy the time someone finally makes the damn thing I will be ready to buy, and will not want to wait another 3-years for them to start showing up used

I got 133% of my purchase price back when I sold the '85 Nighthawk 650 after putting 44k miles on it.

Do I have to tell ya about my 3 Nighthawks again?

That is the best part of buying used. If you make the right choice, it'll hold its resale value. The first owner is the one that takes the hit. I think I could sell the VFR for what I paid for it, 3+ years and 13k miles later.
