That's what I gathered from your posts Makes you wonder about all the people that dump a new trans into their car - how long they could have held off... it's all too common a repair at Honda shops now.

My Civic doesn't shift right half the time when it's cold and Tom says the Insight is the same way, especially the sub zero days we had.
Ellen I have heard it's common with the automatics as well. Do you happen to know
exactly what the issue is? Is it something internal to the tranny itself that requires
it to be dropped to get it fixed or perhaps something else that wouldn't be as costly?

I know I could search but I'm lazy.

Congratulations,

but for us chuckleheads, please explain (since we obviously missed some important prior posts).

There's all types of formula cars, and the "National Tours" and the "National Championships" doesn't mean much to us that don't follow racing. Could be snowmobiles for all we know.

Can we assume you have sponsors that pay your way? That certanly would be a plus!

The SCCA has 2-day National Tour events around the country for Solo or Autocross competition. These bring out the best of the best and do have limited contingencies. Potentially, we could win a few tires if we do well. The National Championship is a week long event held at the end of August each year. It draws close to 1200 competitors. There is no qualification for it. Anyone that has attended a National Tour is welcome at Nationals.

I will be co-driving a friend's SCCA F-Mod car. An F-mod car is a purpose built, single seat, open wheel car. In my case, it is powered by a snowmobile drive train. (See, your snowmobile guess wasn't that far off. )

I wish! Actually, I have to pay to co-drive. Typically, the co-driver buys tires and splits travel expenses. In this case, I'm saving money. A set of tires for an F-mod car is 3/4 the cost of the tires I was running on the S2000 and will last for a season for 2 drivers. We were already splitting hotel rooms at these events. Now, instead of driving the S, I'll share driving of the tow vehicle. My gas expenses will be about the same as before.

More info:

The car I will be running is a Formula 500.

Formula 500 cars are powered by a two cylinder, water cooled two stroke engine. (Snowmobile)

F500 uses an advanced Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), similar to that used in F1 racing snowmobiles.

These advanced belt driven automatic transmissions are tuned to optimize the power curve of a two stroke engine, constantly keeping the engine at its peak power. One of the key benefits of the CVT is that it is a stepless transmission. This allows all of the engine's power to be transmitted to the drive wheels at all times.

This is the car I'll be running:
