I agree with Doug. It is always better to negotiate from a position of strength. Having a job will always give you more support in negotiating another job.

Many years ago I made the mistake of turning down a job offer because I felt they were not paying me enough. I struggled for a while only to accept another similar offer. But having that job and being good at it allowed me to ask for a pay hike. Eventually the experience also helped me move on to another job.

Cone Mark - sorry to hear your company is doing that. It seems to be quite the norm at several organizations though.

I've spoken my piece to Sarah (basically I think she should take whatever is offered), the rest is up to her.

I make enough that I can pay all the bills for both of us and still put a little away. Any job that she gets is just bonus money

Get married or find a live in and you too can be a two income household.

Granted two paychecks makes a mortgage payment easier, but remember you only own 1/2 the house if something happens..............

In this economy two incomes doesn't necessarily translate into big $$$$$$$$$, lots of folks are now "underemployed" due to the recession.

Hell no
I love my freedom too much to do that

And it's my total freedom that compensates me for the single income
