Default Skip Shifts

Anyone else skip a gear while just on an easy commute. Say 1st to 3rd to 5th? or 1st to 2nd to 4th to 6th?
maybe it saves on clutch life?

It would seem to make sense for easy commutes, but I personally don't skip gears while up-shifting even for easy driving (it's too fun to shift on this car!). Now, down-shifting, that's another story!

I skip gears often. I usually reach cruising speed in 3rd, and just slide it into 5th or 6th. I don't skip 2nd though, it's too much fun!

I think it actually might hurt your car. Im sure someone will have more of a technical explanation.

I've done it on all my manual transmission vehicles and never had a problem. I don't do it every time, just when it fits the driving conditions.

I'm with Eric on this. If I skip a shift it's usually when I'm on a leisurely cruise and only in the gears higher than 2nd.

I do 1st to 2nd to 6th on occasion. When I do it's a very slow shift to 6th, plenty of time for those synchros to do their thing.

I also will skip (hi, Skip!) gears with no problems other than a high RPM 3-6 shift, which will grind like a bitch due to the previously mentioned need to match speeds for the synchros...
