I wanted something a bit different than the typical deck. Cost more in lumber, but it is a different look and pretty darn sturdy.

How'd you attach them? Toe-screw them?

I got some shots through the window of one of my favorite creatures. Love these guys. Boy are they fast!

A combination of that and some brackets to anchor the 2x4s to the frame every 10 pieces or so.

I utilized 1/4" plywood spacers on each piece to help preserve the distance and prevent the boards from wobbling from being stood up on their ends. Each board is screwed into one another as well.

You could drive a Sherman Tank on that thing...only way it is coming out of there is with a chainsaw.

In the end, it cost me about $400 more in lumber & supplies, and maybe an extra day of labor, but the result is that I have something totally unique.

Besides, it was fun to think up something a bit different

I think it's cool and certainly more expensive to do.
I'd like a turret on my roof, and a bunker in my basement...
