How do you keep the boot snug up to the bottom of the knob?

You can usually push up the cover and from the inside wrap a plastic zip tie around the leather and tighten it to prevent it from falling down.

^yup. I rolled mine in on itself, and it stayed snug. I tried the ziptie, but it bothered me cause I could see it sticking out from underneath the leather

Yeah I just rolled it inside itself and with the counter sunk knob sitting low, you see no shift rod at all..
