The techs and other "low end" staff would certainly lie to cover their asses. Some dealerships will take the cost of a replacement part out of the person's pay if they can pin it on someone specific. (ie Tom had to pay for a keyboard he spilled coffee on a few years ago).

They may want to do similar for the cost of a front lip.
The fact is they don't have a process in place. As and when this happened, the first thing the tech should have done, was communicated with the service advisor and Service Manager and then explained things as they happened to Mark. To string him along playing the blame game and passing the buck is not fair to the customer and reflects very poorly on their entire service department. It means people are penalized for mistakes and owning up to mistakes comes at a cost. Mistakes happen everywhere and anywhere, it is how an organization deals with it that matters.

Now if car manufacturers had a similar culture to building cars, we would still be dealing with cars that would breakdown periodically. Having Tom pay for spilling coffee is along the same lines.

Also correct me if I'm wrong. Don't car repair shops carry insurance to cover damage? If so, why penalize the guys that are the front line to your customers.

That aside, I received a response from my contact at Keeler. Will be sharing that with Mark.

I agree, and with any insurance policy, the more claims, you can expect a higher premium down the line.

While mistakes do happen at work, it's not uncommon for an employer to make an employee feel pretty bad, or to penalize them monetarily, even if they are upfront about the accident error.

At least they weren't joyriding (does anyone still use that term) with the vehicle when it was in for service. A road test to make sure all is well is quite common, depending on the type of service.

Dealership buys the Civic outright (pays off Honda) and then sells it for what they can.

Believe it or not the Fit actually handles better than the Civic - to me it feels more fun anyway. The Civic has always been so bland - if you are looking for a car with almost no driver involvement, it's a great car. Not the way I like to drive though

Kinda does look like a mini minivan though I saw a first gen Odyssey on the way home - I think the Fit is bigger

Good luck. You haven't had the Civic very long, hope the deal works for you not just the car people. You know how those dealers are.
