I love that site, it's so nice to see Sam's is almost always the lowest cost

I've never understood the obsession to finding the lowest gasoline prices.
Let's say that the gas station closest to me is selling at $4.05/gallon.
There is another gas station 2 miles further away that is selling gasoline at $4.00/gallon.
Assume I will be taking 15 gallons of gasoline to fill up my vehicle. Driving an extra 2 miles away saves me $0.75. Whoopie.
Now, assuming I get 20 miles a gallon in my vehicle, I will use a fifth of a gallon of gas for those extra two miles round trip.
At $4.00/gallon, a fifth of a gallon costs me $0.80 in fuel, thus wiping out any advantage I scored by purchasing the cheaper fuel. I'm actually paying a nickel to purchase the cheaper fuel.
This completely ignores the depreciation and wear & tear associated with the extra miles of driving, further increasing the discrepancy.

^^ I've done similar math when people ask why I buy cars that run on premium. When I run the math, premium costs less than $150 extra a year for the TSX and S2000 combined. Big deal. I'll gladly spend the $150 for the extra performance.

Should I stop at the station on West Henrietta Rd that I drive by and spend $3.89, or do I wait and stop at the one 5-miles farther down the road and get gas at $3.79? Seems like a no brainer, so yes, I do indeed look for the lowest price of the stations I plan to drive past.
10¢ x 19 gallons is almost 2 bucks, do that twice and I get a free lunch...

My point was more along the lines of the people who live around here and drive down the the Res for cheap gas and cigarettes.
Once I play the numbers game with them, they find out they aren't really saving much (if anything) at all.

OMG - look at the other prices though Regular is more than the 93 now... I paid $3.71 per to fill the Fit at the cheapest place within 10 miles last week

I don't bother unless it's a significant amount... the Citgo I go to has consistently been the cheapest place anywhere since I moved to this area. It was right across the street from my first apartment.
Now it's about 5 miles away BUT it's right next to my bank and chiropractor so I am near there most of the time when I need gas
