Bear
Resident and Nonresident hunters may take one bear by gun or bow each license year. Resident hunters get one black bear carcass tag with the purchase of any big game hunting license. Non-resident hunters must purchase a separate black bear tag in addition to their big game license.
In the Southern Zone, you may not shoot a cub or a bear that should be known to be a cub, shoot any bear from a group of bears, or shoot or take a bear from its den.

Black bears are starting to show up around western NY in areas where they were never seen before (Lockport, Amherst...)

It looked to me like a hunter got it, and then lost it, as in could not track it after wounding it
The Coyotes however proved to be better trackers
