Oil Change before winter storage.

Oil Change before winter storage.
I was talking to a friend of mine about my car and the ritual of winter storage. He said to only put 4 quarts in before storage and when I take the car out next spring to then add the final quart so it lubricates everything from the top as it's being poured in. Has anyone done this? Does anyone even change the oil before storage?

Yes I do an oil change before it goes into storage. Removes any of the acidic junk from the car before it sits for 6 months.
Never heard the "only put 4 quarts in" thing.

You also want to have the required amount of oil in the car because after you change it and before you
put it into storage, you'll want to run the car for 10-15 minutes to get that fresh oil to coat and clean
off the engine parts of any old acidic oil residue and also so that any condensation in the exhaust
can dissipate.

I've been doing the same thing for my S2 every winter since 2002.
I simply change the oil and oil filter every spring before the first start.
There's more to winter storage but that's the oil portion I do.
