New car project I picked up!
So, I picked up a nearly complete project from a guy in York, PA and got it back home this weekend. Looks to be a ton of work piecing things together, but the car is really nice and the parts seem pretty complete.
It's going to be getting an LS1 and a T56. It came with all of the parts (or nearly so) to do the swap, I just have a lot of work to do to get it together. I'll be updating this as I get more photos up and make progress. It should be an EXTREMELY fun and fast car.
I ran out of room for all of the awesome spare parts, so I found a temporary storage solution.

Another quick photo. I just spoke with Mike from www.neweraperformanceparts.com and he seems to be really interested in the project and should be helpful for sourcing parts and adding some performance later on.
Unfortunately, I may have broken a finger today working on a truck. Hopefully it's just a bad sprain, we'll see how much the swelling goes down tomorrow. Haven't ever broken a bone before, so I'm not sure what it's like. Oh well, worst case it puts me back a couple days.

Will do on that x-ray. Probably a smart idea, just not what I want to do.
Yeah, I think the FD Rx-7 is one of the better styled car out there. That's a '93 and it still looks contemporary and great. Much like the S2000 styling - it's NEVER going to go out of style.

Good Advice on getting X-ray......Don't mess around with it unattended...PS what are you going to do for a rear end..or are you going to see how far the stock one will handle before exploding..

Guys have buried the cars into the 10's pretty hard with the stock equipment. I don't see a lot of drag racing in the car's future and definitely not on anything stickier than an outstanding "corner carver" tire (no wrinkly sidewalls for me), so I don't expect it to be an issue.
The ring gear is massive on the car, 8.5" I think, so that is strong. The diff itself is pretty tough but has some easy/relatively cheap upgrades if I do pop one. Kaaz sells a diff for about $800 that should take nearly any abuse.
A problem I might have to look into is controlling the diff movement. Apparently you can crack the case with very hard use or abuse (mostly drag racing it seems), and the torque arm supplied with the swap kit isn't adequate. I'm looking into this further to see if it will be an issue with what I plan to do. There is a very nice rear subframe that a guy is building, but it's a $1000 part that I very well might not need, so before I pull the trigger, I want to know if I'll need it.
I also won't be running a very aggressive clutch, at least to start with. That should really help out the drivetrain and absorb about all of the shock. I can pick up a slightly used C5 Z06 clutch for about $20 from New Era, so I'll probably do that just to get the car running. If it only lasts a month, oh well, at least I got some time to troubleshoot other issues. If it lasts 6 months, I'll be thrilled and then look for something a bit nicer to stand up to road course abuse.
