I started riding in 1985 on a brand spanking new Honda Nighthawk S. (Like Doug, I put 8000+ miles on it the first season.) In 1991, it was totaled when I got rear-ended at a yield sign. It had about 20k miles on it. I kept it and bought my brother's '85 Nighthawk S. Put about 5k miles on it before selling it to buy one of many Fiat X1/9s. In the mean time, I picked up a 3rd '85 Nighthawk S that was a total. Rebuilt it using most of the parts from my original bike. Put about 20k miles on it before selling it to buy the '99 Honda ST1100. Rode that for about 20k miles before selling it last spring to pay for the '04 VFR that I purchased in late '07.

The S2000 is my first Honda car, but I go way back with Honda!

Excellent story Mark, I always wondered. Wow, the Nighthawk S as your 1st bike, and brand new, how cool is that.

Ok, now do one more thing, tell us how much you spent 24-years ago to buy a BRAND NEW bike; I suspect you are going to make me but I'm ready...

$3000, that included the helmet and a factory service manual.

In 2002, I sold the one that was built from two wrecks for $1900.

$3k.......

Don't post that $1.9, makes me think if I actually sold my 650 Nighthawk I might be able to do $1.1 to $1.3k

Doug,

This will make you sick. Here is the run down on the 3 Nighthawks I owned.

Purchases:
1st bike = $3000
2nd bike = $1600
3rd bike = $300
Total Spent = $4900

Sales:
Insurance settlement on 1st bike = $1700 (Was $2000, but buy back was $300.)
Sale of 2nd bike = $1900
Sale of 3rd bike = $1900
Total = $5500
Net profit after 45k miles of riding = $600!

Not bad buddy, not bad at all!

I sure hope I hear back from the Honda museum, I woul dlove to run my Noighthawk down there someday. And what would be even better is if they could find me a nice VFR, and reduce the price a bit in exchange.
