A story in today's paper

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/articl...isy-motorcycles

I never heard this before!
Indeed, under federal law, factory motorcycle pipes are stamped with an Environmental Protection Agency seal and it's illegal to tamper with those pipes. And, state law prohibits motorcycles "equipped with an exhaust system that has been modified in a manner that will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of such vehicle above that emitted by the exhaust system originally installed on the vehicle."
My VFR is still way, way, way, way, way quieter than most Harleys...

The way I see it. The City is trying to make more money to balance its budget.

It means you are safer as long as you stay away from Greece.

Greece is where Chris lives
Greece is where one of the largest police scandals ever went down
Greece is where the school district last year went millions upon millions over on a rebuilding job
Greece is where the taxes just continue to go up and up
Greece is where I will not be riding any time soon

That is sad. I can see where they'd want to restrict real loud exhausts. But to do so against all custom exhausts is plain wrong.

Also think a louder than stock exhaust helps a motorcycle get noticed and is safer for the rider.

The thing that blows me away, if this is indeed true, that it is illegal to modify any motorcycle exhaust. If this is a Federal thing like the artice says, how could aftermarket companies sell bike exhausts here?

Funny you should say this...

While pounding around working on KNAPP SRT I can't tell you the number of times I have come upon a deer, that was already running because it heard me coming.

I'll take a running deer anyday over a sitting still one. The running deer is at least partially predictable, the standing still one is totally unpredictable!

And of course, same thing applies to the bike!

I think these companies must also comply with EPA requirements.

I've never installed any custom exhaust but would think they can't get licensed to manufacture unless they comply

You know it'll only get enforced on the kids on sportbikes, and NEVER on the Harleys...

Aashish, most all aftermarket exhausts come with a disclaimer by saying they are for off road use only.
Did not know that Jeff. Thanks for sharing
