Jeff- can you confirm if the image below correctly identifies the area where we will be meeting. Like you mentioned, I pinpointed the clearing on the right once we cross US9 and head East on Sawmill Road.

Aashish, yes, that is the spot. It is really just the shoulder of the road, wide enough to pull off, but not much more. I think there might be a flashing light at intersection of 74 and 9, so I would have us pass through the light and just pull over on the right.

The first or second building on the right going south on Route 9 (right turn) is a Sunoco gas station for those of us who will need gas.

This appears to be the list:

After work tomorrow, I will not have internet access.

So excited to meet everyone! This spot is 27 miles from the nearest E85 station so I will be bringing 5 gallon jug of extra petrol!

Corey,

I don't think you will need the 5 gallons of extra fuel unless you get really, really bad mileage on the E-85 - plus, with speed and curves, it will be sliding and slopping around in the trunk of the car all day on the drive. Click on the photo - you'll see.

If you feel compelled, PM me with your cell phone number so we can make contact Friday night. I'm happy to meet you on Friday evening on my way up north, pick up your full 5 gallon can in my SUV and stash it at my camp which is about midpoint (geographically) on the drive. That way, we can arrange for you to top off during the drive so you won't be nervous.

I get on I-87 at Exit 7 (Lanham?), so I could stop and meet you at any exit north of that. I usually get to Exit 7 around 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday night - depends on when I can get out of work and get out of here. I would call you from the road to coordinate estimated meet up time.

Jeff

I work 7:45-11 on Friday so not really an option.. I do appreciate it tho.. Im not so much worried about running out of gas as running it low.. not good to run low with e85 and the pump I run. ill just have to take it easy near the end.. my gas mileage under harsh driving is about 15MPG and under crusing and normal driving about 18

I made several runs up and down "the fun road" this past Tuesday on my VFR. Pretty much had it to myself and was making good use of the new dual compound tires!

Corey, Would you be more comfortable if I just picked up some E85 on my way up. I have an empty gas can, maybe with a little regular gas. It looks like the station closest to the drive is not at the Warrensburg exit, but probably the Queensbury exit further south. I could stop in there and get some if you wished.

Just an idea--how about meeting at the mentioned Sunoco station on 9 instead of having cars parked on the shoulder of 74? Seems a lot safer and would attract less attention.

I'll probably stop there to top off anyhow.

Aashish, Steve and others- do you want to meet and caravan up together on Sat? I'm thinking that the rest area on the Northway just above exit nine would be a good jumping off point.
