How does a certificate of achievement differ from a license? Does it mean they want to see you do another season before they hand you a license? I can't believe how long they are taking to do this for you Jeff

Possible set back to my racing endeavors.
In an effort to improve my ability to stop, I replaced the flexible brake lines and one on the steel brake pipes and put Porterfield R4-1 racing brake pads on my front disc brakes. These are very meaty compared with the previous pads and have about 25% more brake surface. Also after some "fabrication", I put on a new emergency shut off switch that is tied into my newly functional electrical system so the car will now shut off when running and the generator is charging. Pretty much buttoned up the car for next weekend's event.
But being worried about the sound restriction at Lime Rock (variously described as either 84 dB or 89 dB), I went to radio shack and bought a sound meter. Car tests out at close to 110 dB at about 3,000 rpm. Admittedly this is inside the barn, but I think I'll get black flagged for sure at WOT. I have to make a call to the custom exhaust shop tomorrow morning to see if they can find a solution before next Friday. My biggest problem is that I have structural clearances on only 2 3/4" to about 4" under the car.

Aashish, the Lime Rock event you visited me at was an unmuffled event. In the court settlement with the neighboring church, Lime Rock can run a certain number of unmuffled events. The 2 of the 3 usual VSCCA events at Lime Rock are muffled events, however. They don'tt mess around. The state police may even show up with their sound meter. I've been worried about this problem all along. That's why I put the small glasspack muffler on the car. Before that the sound was excruciating.
Jeff, my exhaust includes a side pipe that will point to the outside of the track at Lime Rock. Unfortunately, it points up and out. I have a sort of Supertrap tip that I can put on, but it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference except to rob me of power.
I called the custom muffler shop. They will take me in for a look see on Monday morning.
My biggest problem is that I have no ground clearance. I have two pipes coming down from the exhaust manifold (they are the exhaust manifold). They are then tied together with a Y to which I have attached my glasspack. A solution might be to eliminate the Y and install 2 slightly longer glasspack mufflers and take one pipe out of each side of the car.
Ah, the frustration of it all!

Wishful thinking. Did another sound test at lunch, this time pulling the car out of the barn. At 4,500 to 5,000 rpm and at 30 feet, was reading 94 dB. Still too high.

^ Jeff you should shift your home base to Watkins Glen
LRP is too restrictive. No convertibles, no noise...next we know they'll say only Prius' and CR-Z's can race on the track.
