Default Honda Discussion Thread

Haven't done this in a while. Manufacturer for the week is Honda, our favored marque.

I was just looking on their website and they have 11 models on sale and not one of them that I have an active desire for. I may have a need for them and they may fulfill a need very well but nothing in the mainstream line-up that fulfills a desire. The HPD CR-Z is available but at a premium and the Civic Si has become a well-mannered young adult quite unlike the pint-sized hooligan that it used to be that never hesitated to mix it up with the big boys.

I have hope for the marque though. They may come back to a point where they will have some fun cars. Everyone is doing it and they don't want to be seen as not exciting forever. The Civic Type R is being prepared in Europe and could come in some variation to our shores. There have been rumors about another S2000 but I doubt they will do it.

As I look to cars from their past, there are several I like. The S2000 is the obvious choice - the best car IMHO to wear a Honda badge. The EM1 Si is another in addition to the EP3 & FG/FA Si's that I like.

Like the CRX-Si's too but then as I think more and more about it, maybe I'd just be happy driving a Civic hatch from the 90's.

No future plans to buy anything new from Honda. I am getting older and who knows someday down the line I may just want the comfort of an Accord or a Pilot/Ridgeline. The Fit RS is a nice rumor. I hope it comes true. Another S2000 would be nice too - a clean AP1 or CR would be on the list if I came into money all of a sudden.

What about you? What Honda's have you owned? Any new Honda's that you fancy? Excited about Honda coming back to F1 next year??

My list of Honda's
- 01 Accord LX Sedan
- 08 Si Sedan
- 06 S2000

Hondas owned:

1985 Nighthawk S (3)
1987 Accord DX Hatch
1999 ST1100
2003 S2000
2004 Interceptor
2005 TSX
2010 Civic LX Coupe

Of the current models, I would consider a V6 Accord Coupe. I wish they made a mid size pickup with AWD.

This is Doug Meis's car. I don't know what he has moved to, but I will probably see him at the VDCA VIR event starting next Friday. The B210 in the video is racing in my group, and if Doug races the S800, I'll only be lapped about 3 times! The car has been for sale for a few months for $25,000. The problem is that fewer and fewer vintage GP cars are now racing. Still, I might make him an offer. Should we form a syndicate?

Love that car! I would really like a street version to go with my S2000.

Briefly looked into the V6 Accord a few years ago when replacing Sarah's car, but the price is too high on those cars. $30k for an Accord seems excessive, especially considering there are competitors out there that offer the same value for much less.

The Ridgeline doesn't offer a manual option and I bash my knee on the dash every time I climb in.

The Civic Si has become watered-down from what it once was.

I would actually consider the Fit if I were in the market for a small vehicle.

The CR-Z is a cool design, but needs more power if they want to capture the enthusiast market's attention.

Honda hasn't really gotten worse over the years, I just think everyone else got better...

I took our new CRV in to the dealer for a free oil change last week. I went out to the show room floor and was stunned! I found nothing I was excited to sit in. Nothing caught my eye. When we were buying the CRV last summer, at least they had a CRZ on the floor that I thought would be fun, dispite being underpowered. The 2003 Accord V6 that we traded in on the CRV was one of the best cars I had ever owned. It was the first car I ever traded back in at the dealer. It was ready for a timing belt replacement, struts, etc. I really like the CRV, but as A2 stated, someday down the line I may just want the comfort of an Accord or a Pilot/Ridgeline. I have been down the line for some time now, and comfort and dependability does mean more than it used to. Hey, I own an S2000, no matter what else I drive, I have "street creds" that make driving the "family truckster" OK.

I have been thinking about what will replace my 2007 Fit. I have 80,000 miles on it and I have never had it back to the shop since the first oil change. It has a few water leaks, which I found out the hard way, with a spare tire well with 3 inches of water, and the struts are getting weak. The water leaks are normal for this car and easy to fix once they are found. I think I will dress it up an keep it awhile longer unless a slightly used two door Accord V6 falls into my lap. Maybe I will make a faux rally, real auto cross car out of it!

1983 V45 Intercepter (first year)
1991 Civic SI
2003 Accord V6 (first style year)
2007 Fit Sport (first year US)
2002 S2000
2013 CRV EX-L

HA!rry

I have liked all my Hondas but as you all have stated there is nothing exciting right now. Who is to know what the future will bring, we can only hope. If I had to buy for utility the Accord and CRV would be two that would get a look. In 74 or 75 I test drove two used 72 600s but one was to beat and the other way overpriced. That was gas crunch time. Looked real hard at the Accord in 2003 but no local dealer had V6, manual and 2dr. So no joy there.
My Hondas:
1976 Civic CVCC 5spd hatch (5spd model only came with one interior and red or yellow outside that year) Great car
1983 CR250R (fork had to much/to little rebound damping do not remember which for sure, shock faded 1st ride after setup but BelRay LT1 fixed that, GREAT bike)
2002 S2000
