still use the function and not risk giving someone potentially with your keys
directions right to your front door.

Ok GPS question, all you guys go to your GPS and try to pan with it. You know move the screen so you can see 5-10-15 miles away. Tell me how easy it is.
This is the one reason I like the Alpine unit built into Rose's CRV it has a joystick and it pans FAST. You can pan to a location press set and away you go just ike that. Do any of the "portable" units do this is a FAST and easy fashion?

Yeah, it is possible to pan with my Garmin unit. It's not as fast as Google maps, but it's doable. That's why I think the Garmin / Google Maps combo is awesome, because if you are able to plan your trip ahead of time, you can pan and search way-points to your heart's content on Google Maps and send those points into your GPS. Once you're on your car, just call up those points from your "favorites".

Everyone must remember that when you have a GPS unit, you have on-going maintenance costs. You need to pay to have the maps updated. I personally have a Garmin Nuvi 255W, it's one of those 4.3in wide screen units. Quite nice. But to keep is useful for years to come, you have to periodically update the firmware (free) and update the maps (not free).
I find it useful even to/from places I am already familiar with, as it will tell you ETA.
