Jim just in case you dont want to install the Modifry mount, you can order a Garmin friction mount from Amazon. I use this in my cars.

Yeah I have a Garmin wide screen too, I like it.
I use that in the S, Aashish, I already have my Sirius satellite radio
on a suction cup mount in the S, didn't want a 2nd one. Besides, I
rarely use the GPS and didn't want to have it in the car all the time.

I bought Sarah a Garmin 250 for her birthday a little over a year ago (she is VERY directionally challenged).
She liked it SO much, her parents bought her sister (also directionally challenged) one a year later. One of her friends (directionally challenged as well - sensing a trend here?) liked Sarah's Garmin so much, she bought one immediately after borrowing Sarah's for a road trip.
The Garmin just has such an intuitive interface, and seems relatively accurate. Make sure you get a model that has maps of Canada in it. I went with the 250 for Sarah because of that, some of the lower-end models do not include maps of Canada.
I liked the Garmin interface so much, I purchased a new Kenwood DNX5120 receiver for my new truck - it has Garmin navigation built in!

Thanks for all the replies. You guys are great. I just ordered a Garmin 265 from the GPS store. I'm proficient at using an atlas but I consider the GPS unit a luxury.

You'll love it! We would not travel without one!
Be sure to check your navigation settings! Don't "avoid" too many things or you'll never get to your destination.
We avoid dirt roads, and that's about it. If we want back roads, we avoid highways. We also set it to faster time vs shorter distance.
It still doesn't hurt to plan your route on a map, as you may not want to take the route the Nuvi suggests. We enter via points if we want to use a specific highway to get to a destination., vs the route being suggested.

Here is my unit, it's awesome, never once has it given me a problem
My +1 requires a GPS because your system doesn't show how many minutes to the closest Cracker Barrel

Everyone must remember that when you have a GPS unit, you have on-going maintenance costs. You need to pay to have the maps updated. I personally have a Garmin Nuvi 255W, it's one of those 4.3in wide screen units. Quite nice. But to keep is useful for years to come, you have to periodically update the firmware (free) and update the maps (not free).
I find it useful even to/from places I am already familiar with, as it will tell you ETA.
