Anyone here have upgrade their gears? I'm tempted to pick up the kia 4.77 -- I'm looking around to find a decent shop for install and what each of you paid? Let me know, thanks.

Hey there Cuff.
I'm running the 4.44 gears for the final drive and if memory serves me right I had them swapped out at Childs Automotive in Saratoga.
www.childsautomotive.com
I think I paid between $200 and $300 to get them done. Not sure exactly though, but its in my records when I can find them.
You might also want to get a "yellow box" speed calibrator once you do this. I did that myself but its a bit tricky unless you know what you're doing. (it comes with instructions) And I think I bought those off of either hardtopguy.com or modifry, not sure again.
Just for a note, with the installed 4.44 final drive gears, when cruising at 70 mph, you should be running at just over 4000 rpms.
So the higher in number you go, say like 4.50 or 4.77, then the less gas mileage you'll get and you'll be running closer to VTEC than before.
Just a thought...
Hope I could help.
(And by the way, when is the next autocross over in Edinburgh or are they all done this year?)

I'll give that place in saratoga a buzz! Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
Next autocross in Edinburg is the 18th and 19th. I was going to post it up later tonight. There's also one in lake george this sunday.
I'll get the flyers printed up and posted. I'll also relist my video to show everyone whats up.

***Childs no longer installs the final drive.;p lol. I've had a lot of local domestic shops turn me down too. I assumed itd be the same principle for the install.. who knows.

Sucks to hear Gary can't help you with the install, but his business has been booming for several years now and he's probably got alot of cars to work with on problems besides modifications.
The other 2 places I can think of are the Synapse Motorsport, that Dave (headchef) mentioned or you could also try www.inlineperformance.com also.
Dave's shop is located on Altamont Ave in Schenectady and he does mods on cars all the time. He should be able to hook you up too.
