Wish I had "where am I" - sounds like a great idea and worth a little more for that model.
They are SUPER easy to use Doug, you'll have no problems at all.
Thx Ellen!
All points of view are appreciated, it has my thinking cap totally engaged

It's an amazing tool, but keep your maps handy.
Thanks, another good point of view

My main reason for wanting one right now is "I'm lost on Long Island, and I just want to f'ing get home!"

I'll definitely help, but trust me these units are so intuitive you wont even need to read the instruction manual and will have figured out how to use it
I'm going to be your back seat passenger from hell on Saturday

For long trips, I will use Google maps to set way points into the GPS so I'm not depending on the GPS to take me completely from point A to B. I'll set many points in between into the GPS.
Hmmmm, that was stored in my memory, thanks
I have very specific routes I want to use from Albany to LI, and the from LI back home
I have seen some of the google default routes, so I suspect a GPS could do the same thing, which is "you want me to take what route? Are you out of your f'ing processor?"

I have not looked into it in great detail, but I'm under the impression that you can plan routes in Google maps and download them to the Garmin. I am hoping to do this for motorcycle trips.

The nice thing about both of us, and John, having the same unit, we can all learn fdrom each other, John has had his for about a year, he was telling me when we drove to V&V I was averaging 72 according to the 255W, and, ironically enough, that is what my spedometer said

You ride differently than I do
When it comes to the bike, I ride, I do not plan
Have you never read this book???
