Extreme Performance Tires available for AP1's
I just thought I would look on Tire Rack to see what kind of options were available for the AP1 wheels.
Not too long ago, you could only get the S-02's and "Track & Autocross" use only Toyo's as far as grippy rubber goes.
I just searched and it looks like the following tires are available in 16" sizes for the S2000 in addition to other tires.
- Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 (set of 4 $552)
- Bridgestone Potenza RE-11A ($ 556)
- Dunlop Direzza Z II ($542)
- Hankook Ventus RS-3 ($504)
With such good tires available, AP1 owners now have several options for tires. I wonder if this change has to do with the new SCCA autocross Street classification that requires competitors to run on street tires and not use R-comps anymore
Any AP1 owners still on 16s? I know Headchef is still on the factory wheels.

Sectional width of the S-02 is 8.1" in front and 9.2" in the rear.
The RS-3 measures 8.4" in front and 9.1" in the rear.
The Dunlop Z II's measure 8.4" in front and 9.2" in the rear.

The difference at best is marginal IMHO as with a car like the S2000, the advantage is all up to the driver. By moving to 17" wheels your contact patches increase marginally and that could lend you an advantage in terms of grip.
Keep in mind, with 17s you will pay up to $100 extra for tires depending on the manufacturer.

I keep my OEM wheels with good rubber RE-01Rs. I use them as a rain tire if the weather for LRP looks dicey. I've only used them there once and they handled great!

When you go +1 you usually try to keep the same (as close as possible) rolling circumference so the sidewalls get shorter, generally this makes a stiffer sidewall and a slightly more responsive feel in the steering, sometimes a little more cornering grip/speed result.

Keith - back when I bought the Ap1 wheels from 3H (around 2010) the only options were S-02s and Toyo race tires. Makes me happy to see so many tire options. If I bought an AP1 I would stick with the 16" wheels and put some Direzza Z II's or RS-3s on them.

I have my stock ap1s for autocross, they have v12 evos on them, seems like there is a decent number of tires that are available.
