F1 is sold. New owner is an American media group. Here is hoping they bring some American ingenuity to the sport in due course as Bernie is expected to stick around for another 3 years

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-37303230

US firm Liberty Media has confirmed it is buying the racing business Formula 1 for $4.4bn (£3.3bn).
The move ends years of speculation about the ownership of the company.
Bernie Ecclestone will remain as chief executive but Chase Carey, vice-chairman of 21st Century Fox, will become the new chairman.
Liberty Media has stakes in several sports and entertainment businesses, including the Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball club.
Owned by the billionaire John Malone, Liberty will initially purchase a minority stake in the world's leading motor-racing championship. A full takeover is planned if regulators approve the deal.
The total transaction values the firm at $8bn but includes $4.1bn worth of F1's debt.
Liberty Media is buying the stake from the private equity firm CVC Capital.

So for those that watched the race from Brazil yesterday and without revealing the results, what did you think of Max Verstappens race? To me it was like watching a younger robotic Senna. Great race I thought when you remove all the weather delays and safety car periods.

I didn't watch the race, but did watch an overview of his drive and DAMN! The man can wheel a car alright. And I was thinking of Senna as well. Hopefully we see more exciting racing similar to this!

I'm amazed they didn't have to surgically remove him from his seat after that pucker moment about halfway through...

Here is a nice blog post on Max Verstappens drive in Brazil. The article has insights from both Peter Krause and Ross Bentley

Axis Of Oversteer: How Max Verstappen exposed Formula One groupthink.

Peter Krause -
"Max was doing everything Bruce MacInnes and other Skippy instructors have taught for four decades!"
Ross Bentley -
"Verstappen's performance in Brazil illustrates a few things. First, with youth often comes a good form of not knowing what you shouldn't do. In other words, he's naive, but in a positive way. Too many drivers, after just a few years, start to follow what they think they should do. And they believe what they think they should believe. Verstappen doesn't believe he has any limits, and that's why he's doing what he's doing in F1. Let's hope he continues this way, because it's what Senna and Schumacher did longer than most."When I hear people like Toto Wolff saying things like Verstappen is "redefining physics," it also shows how even people at the top of the sport can get into this "follow others" mindset. Verstappen isn't redefining physics. He simply drove further off line than other drivers because he wasn't set in his ways, and there is more grip that far off line. On one hand, what Verstappen did was nothing special - go to any junior formula race and you'll see a lot of that. On the other hand, what he did was special because he didn't follow everyone else, or the way others think.!

I liked that in post #215.

Why can't I drive like that?

You drive very well. Keep in mind you are running regular summer tires unlike the rest of us. And all of us make mistakes. I bought a Miata, you were there when I bought it

Getting back to Verstappen, Allan McNish also seems to express a similar view to what Peter Krause and Ross Bentley said

We have a new champion.

With new car next season, I hope there will be another champion and not someone that has been champion over the last 8 seasons
