It really put things into perspective. I wish him luck. I hope he recovers soon.

[QUOTE=JoeyBalls,Jan 12 2010, 08:03 AM] kind of random, but this morning I got a call from wife who was told that one of our friends had a brain aneurysm and subsequently went into a coma. The Drs said she would remain like that

Anyway I have told my wife that if something ever happened to her I really do not know what I would do with myself. I tend to be emotionally unstable at times (glad Im flying your plane right haha) and if I lost her I really feel as though I would withdrawl myself from society and go live in Yosemite in the woods, or live in a barn with a dog and a plane far far away (im not kidding either)

I dunno I think about that a lot and though it sounds strange I sometimes wish I never met my wife or had such a close relationship with my family because the thought of losing them just overwhelms me.

Anyway, this is kinda deep, not sure why I am posting it, but figured maybe you guys think about this type of shit too?
When we consider what might happen, our fears amplify scenarios we may come up with. As a pilot I'm sure you've been trained to act in case of emergencies; the human spirit is remarkably resilient, not that it won't be hell for a while.

We all grieve in our own way(s), as indeed there are phases we go through to process pain. As we mature and experience tradgedies vicariously (wife's friend, Hatian quake, 9/11), on some level we are being prepared for our own trials ahead, if we ask the questions you have and consider what/ who is important to us. It's not deep too do so, I think it's healthy and even necessary to do so and be prepared.

Having a support system of a good marriage, family, friends (a community of faith? other?) will help tremendously, as well as day to day outlets like a dog, a 500 hp Turbo - anything that reminds us we're human and life is worth the living.

Forgive the rantings of a Vintage-r, life isn't easy, shit happens.
