im getting tired of the 4300k. i want to go with someting different like 6k or 8k. wondering who has changed there bulbs to something different also where did you buy yours from and how did they last or lasting you untill this day

my understanding is that you need both the ballasts and the bulbs for a color change, correct me if im wrong

I don't think you need to change the ballasts for a color change. Only if you are changing standard bulbs to HID.

after doing a quick google search, you are correct it seems a new ballast is not necessary.

i assumed the bulb would not get the proper kelvins if the ballast wasn't storing and providing the correct amount of power. my assumption was incorrect.

The technology in high intensity discharge is in some ways similar to fluorescent technology: an arc is established between two electrodes in a gas-filled tube which causes a metallic vapor to produce radiant energy. In this case, however, a combination of factors shifts the wavelength of much of this energy to within the visible range, so light is produced without any phosphors. In addition, the electrodes are only a few inches apart (at opposite ends of a sealed “arc tube”) and the gases in the tube are highly pressurized. There are three main types of HID lamps: mercury vapor, metal halide and sodium. u dont need a ballast! just the bulbs. We changed Gpang's ap2 bulbs last year. I think he has 8ks now. the bulb size is D2S
