where can I take a motor to get a leakdown/compression test?
Are there any shops local to NJ that I can bring a complete motor and have them run this to make sure the motor runs good, and find out the compression readings? any idea what something like this usually costs?
thanks

It's a quick process to do a comp test, shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. Take out all the spark plugs, and make sure there's a starter bolted to the motor to save some labor time.

I guess what Im confused about is how to do this on a motor that is OUT of the car. Do I need to hook up the harness and ecu, etc? What about all of the hoses and whatnot that are attached to it but lead to nowhere? If someone can send me DETAILED instructions on how this is done, I would appreciate it. Talk to me like I am an idiot please, I am not at all familiar with this process

there is 1 wire that goes on the starter motor. If it's the same as all other honda's, the connector with a nut on it will be the positive. The ground can be placed any where on the engine itself. Just tap the positive onto that connector and the starter motor should start doing it's thing.
To do a compression test, all you need to do is turn over the engine 5-7 times.

Basically, compression is checked while cranking the engine, so the engine can be tested out of the car. All you need is the starter and some battery power to turn it over. What kind of engine is this?

it's MY00 s2000 motor
so if I put power to the starter, it will automatically crank for me? I dont need any kind of key or enabler or anything? Once it cranks 7ish times, then cut the powr to the starter? that's it?

no key needed. Just a battery and 2 wires. I forget exactly how many times it's suppose to crank but I'm pretty sure the range is 5-7. I've only done this 3 times and that was about 2 years ago. So my memory of it is a little faint. Hope it helps you out though.
