why do you think you get a discount for insuring a second vehicle.. because you can't drive 2 cars at once.

Regardless of why you get a discount, the price for just my s2000 is slightly higher than my s2000 and my beater.

Too many variables that the OP hasn't identified but ................................. 1 person, 2 cars, 1 S2000, 1 beater, it'll be cheaper to insure the 2 cars vs. 1 S2000.

True story.

edit: unless of course the "beater" is more expensive to insure than the S2000.

Yeah, my S is a "pleasure car" @ 7500 miles/yr and full coverage costs me $850/yr. I have a 2007 Accord as my DD. By itself the S would be much more.

You could find yourself in a pickle if the buyer uses the same insurance company as you, needs to file a claim, and the insurance company finds two policies for the same VIN.

I would call up and cancel the 2nd car. You may get a credit back. Or shop around for insurance and see if anyone can give you a better quote. If you rent an apt or own a home you can get renters or home owners insurance and you get a discount on your auto sometimes.

Not only is your situation jacked but it can happen the other way as well. When I still had my Prelude the Prelude and the S2000 were more expensive then either individually!!! The theory there was since I had two cars I was "hiding" a driver. I wound up swapping insurance companies just to keep the coverage on the two cars for about a month or two while I sold the Prelude.

Insurance companies suck donkey balls, shop around there's enough competition now that you can find one that's better. I never mess with what I tell them since I'm always afraid they'll deny a claim if I ever need to file one for some dumbass reason.

geico was over $500 cheaper than any other company for both cars, I'll see if I can find anything better for just one.

Plus, you don't want to be liable for anything that happens with the car you sold, just in case...
