Track day questions
A friend of mine invited me to join him for a track day at Lime Rock. I used to race motocross but this asphalt stuff is all new to me.
My car's current setup:
165k miles (newer motor 2003 w/~65k mile)
OEM Pads and Rotors as well as OEM spec fluid
Goodyear eagle f1 a/s 215/45/18, 245/40/17
and not that it matters but HKS/BERK HFC/Comptech intake
Do you think it will be a nightmare with these tires and oem brakes on the track?
I would love to get out there an get some track time in the car but money's tight and I can't really afford any mods right now. I still have my OEM ap1's so maybe someone has a set of used 16" track tires that they'd like to sell?
This is all new to me so please let me know how you guys feel about all this.
Thanks
Sean

I drive on stock pads rotars and super blue...
I drive my car at really hard at 100% for two days straight at Pocono each year and everything holds up fine, still on the stock rotars with like 7 of these days. Brake pads and tires take a beating but that's it.
Your first day will be spent learning the track and lines, you'll have a blast and think you are driving hard but trust me you won't be pushing as hard as you will be the next time you visit or the time after...
You are fine stock, bring a set of front pads change the brake fluid and other fluids, bring oil etc.

That sounds great. Can't wait to get out there! I don't know that I'll be able to change the pads myself out there so maybe I can have Jeff do a once over and pad/fluid swap before I head out there. What's your opinion on the tires though?

You don't want anything to worry about while you are out there.
What kind of tires? Make sure you have around 50% or so, you won't need it but it will get you through tech quickly.

Before you go, make the call. Lime Rock is pretty much - No roll bar, no convertibles.
Some organizers have found ways around it I recall, but most won't let a stock S2K run at LR.

I agree with what others have said, I wouldn't really change out anything besides fluid for the first time on the track. Like others have said, you'll worry about getting the lines more. As long as you have tread on your tires, you'll be fine. Don't worry about getting r compounds yet.
Most importantly, have fun!
