Tips for avoiding a speeding ticket
avoiding a speeding ticket
I am personally a firm believer and practitian of not riding the left lane.
My own personal tips too, for putting an officer at ease (as passed on to me by law enforcement peeps i know)
if you get pulled over:
1. turn off the engine, and place the keys on the roof.
2. if it's night time, turn on the interior lights.
3. place your hands outside the window, palms facing the officer, so he can see you're not holding anything.
4. be polite and respectful. (yes, i know it's hard)
All of this sounds silly, right? It has gotten me out of serious tickets on multiple occasions. MachViper was with me on the Thruway when i got clocked doing over 90 MPH. I got a parking ticket on the spot instead.
The night i dropped Lori's scooter off at her house, i got pulled over for speeding thru her little town, i got a ticket for no insurance card instead.
Those techniques disarm the officer, letting him see that you are not going to flee, you have nothing to hide, etc. I have actually had them ask "who told you to do this?" because it's the same thing they do when THEY are pulled over.

I dont go as far as taking my hands out the window but I do keep my hands on the wheel and speak like an adult.
I got some BS ticket for not changing my address on my license instead of a speeding ticket.
HOWEVER, you do catch some a-hole cops that are just out to be a-holes. Rookies especially.

That's what an officer told me MANY years ago. It took me awhile to understand exactly what he was telling me.
