ticket question
So I got a ticket upstate coming home on my last day of college(yeah my luck) for obstruction of view with my radar detector. I pleaded guilty cause i heard it was about a 50 dollar ticket (the acutal ticket had no fine on it though you had to plead to find out what it was . So I get a letter today saying its $100 ticket plus a $85 surcharge except for it states that its a vehicle equipment violation. I cant find any proof but im almost certain a obstruction of view ticket isnt a vehicle equipment violation and I believe they screwed up. Im going to call the station tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone knew what its considered.

The ticket is an equipment violation and scores no points against your license. Although if you plead guilty to any type of moving violation points or not it will stay on your license for 18 months. I know all NYS fines increased and some prior non point offenses were added onto the points portion of fines ( driving on a cellphone ). I know the old obstruction of view summons was about $55 bucks plus surcharge which used to be about $50 or $60.

I know this doesn't help now, but you should NEVER pled guilty right away. Ever! Normally it will get knocked down.
Example: I got a ticket last month for disobeying a traffic control device (passing in double yellow). I pled NOT GUILTY and took the ticket to the Courthouse. I had court today and the ticket was knocked down to a $25 parking ticket and 0 points on my license. (should have been a fine of $250 and 2 points).

Sometimes you can do it by mail with the ADA responsible for it. I called and the assistant gave me the information. I wrote a letter and got a response. This was for a place in upstate NY.
