Default Sat Radio

We just got a new Denon reciever for the downstairs home theater / amp for the house speakers and it has the option to recieve either XM or sirius radio. My moms car has Sirius and my WRX can get it also so I'm leaning towards that but if you guys had the choice, which would you pick and why?

thx

I would wait a bit. The companies (XM and Sirius) have merged, and a condition of the merger is that they have to offer radios that receive both services. Here's the first one:

Sirius/XM Mirge

It won't be too long before all the add-on tuner module are upgraded as well, IMO.

I have XM in the S and when the 3 month trial comes due, theres an option to have all of XM and the "best of sirius"
its funny while listening to xm, they say the channel # for xm then for sirius...

I was with Sirius and owned Sirius stock (big mistake) but they are/have merged so itll basically be one in the same. They also cant afford any of their large upcoming payments and are on the Moodys watch list for companys that will probably go under or have to sell of large portions of their debt to other companies that at the moment dont compete with them just to stay afloat

I'm a Stern fan so even though my car came with XM i put sirius in it...

I think all the stations are the same now and you can get the XM package for sirius or the sirius package for XM to fill in any gaps.

Sirius has stern, nascar, football...
XM has baseball... some other stuff.

If you are just in it for the tunes i can't see why it matters...

Yes, for tunes the sound sucks sweaty ballsack either way you go. They compress it so much and stream at such a low bit rate that the fidelity is awful. Don't misunderstand, the programming is still great but if you want good sound quality for music you'd probably be better off with HD radio.

Another great option that I use at home is the Apple Airport Express with AirTunes. You can pump a nice high-bit-rate stream from your computer right into your receiver over the wireless network, not to mention anything in your iTunes library. It's a one-time expense that would pay for itself v. XM over a year and it will also give you wireless LAN and a printer hub all in one.

I would look at what service that has the stations I want more than the other. You should wait but you may end up waiting for a while. My boy is one of ther DJ's and he mentioned the merger about a year before it even was announced. These things take a while ...
