Default S2 Car Audio Recomendations

I'm looking to hook-up a good stereo system in my S. My current budget is around $1000. I'd like to get a nice Headunit, with MP3 and EQ that controls output to speakers and subwoofer.

As far as install, I know I'll never find the time to do it myself (even tho I'd save a ton of $$ and am pretty meticulous).
Can anyone recommend an audio installer in the Northern NJ area, or close by?

Can I install an aftermarket HU, and speakers, with no extra Amp. for the speakers?

You can, but if you really want to hear music, youll need an amp. The car is simply too loud to have a headunit push the stereo. Dont get me wrong, you will hear it, but if you are cruising at 80mph top down, you wont hear a word.

As for headunit, an Alpine 9856 or 9857 can be had for about $175-$275, depending on model...

A good 4 channel amp will cost about $250-$350.

Good set of speakers will cost about $250

Wiring will cost you about $40-$60

Labor will be $300+ (without subwoofer)

Let me know if you need other help.

Howdy. Got my S2000 a little over a month ago and im in Central Jersey. First thing I did was upgrade the sound. Mine still had the stock 2000 radio. Replaced the door speakers with pioneer 6.5 4 ways, bought rollbar speaker brackets off ebay and put pioneer 6.5 2 ways. I removed the headunit with the JVC KD-AVX2 DVD headunit with 3.5 lcd in it. that powers the internal speakers and is loud enough to hear everything over 100mph with the top down. For the bass I bought a 12 inch sub box for the trunk well, popped an infinity dual voice coil sub and powered with an alpine mono amp. the whole system sounds great. The headunit has tons of tweaking and the whole thing cost me about a thousand dollars. I installed myself. The car is pretty easy to work with. So it is possible. Let me know if you need help installing. Didnt take too long to do.

Next up is upgrading the stock battery, it is getting old.

Pioneer hu FTW!

And I recommend Rockford for every car. They put out awesome sound with a lot of bass.

Clearly bad advice as every car has different needs.

Rockford sounds amazing in every car I have ever heard it in or installed it in, and I worked at Best Buy. If you're saying it might not be right in every car, fine cause I've heard Rockford audio in maybe 20 cars...maybe. But it sounds great in our cars.

How about Jlaurent enclosures, and 8" JL subs, with JL amp?
I think I'm gonna grab this stuff up:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=420120

What r your opinions on this setup?
I will most likely go the Alpine HU route, and a set of front speakers running of the HU amp.
That's it.
