I finally started my winter project. Some of you know I got rear ended by my own sister in my own driverway (just my luck, eh) last winter. Instead of getting the insurance involve on this one, my sister agreed to cover all the expenses . So to save money, I'm doing all the work, less the paint of course. I needed a new trunk, passenger side tail light, and respray the rear bumper. I already found the trunk courtesy of a trade with Clyde (iLuvKetchup). Also got a good deal on the tail light from Manny (HondaKid622). As for the bumper, I'm hoping I could scrore an AP2 bumper... but that's for later. I got the trunk so I got started...
First off, I wanted to get rid of the 3rd brake light and shave it, to look like a regular trunk. So I gutted the 3rd brake light and made it 50% slimmer before molding it onto the trunk.
Drilled the holes for the CR wing an inch back so it doesn't sit in the middle of the trunk like it normally would.
Like the old one, I'm shaving the trunk completely, no emblem or key hole.
Here it is, primered and test-fitted, just waiting to be painted.
While I'm at it, I figure I finish up the engine bay wire tuck I started 2 years ago.
Using aluminum sheets, I made templates to smooth out the ugly "gutted frame rails" in the engine bay.
Also made templates to cover the sides of the engine bay. Makes for a cleaner, smoother look.
More templates to go on the side near the headlights.
I also started painting the 'front face' of the engine block.
Painted the strut bar and engine heatshield, Hammer Black.
I have more to add as I get more materials. For now, this is how I left it this afternoon.
What once was a Sebring Silver engine bay is now all black, Hammer Black.
