I was on Conti DWS. They have been a good tire and had a couple of auto-x and one hypderdive on them. Not to mention some pretty aggressive driving in this FL heat. The rears were probably at 25% when this happened. I still have about 50% up front so I picked up Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 all season. They are actually pretty nice with grip. Needed something asap to drive back down home and no time to order something I really wanted. But needed to replace the rears anyway. I'm happy with them. Good wet traction.

Henry, when were those tires made? (Read the code on the sidewall). Sometimes people sell new tires that have actually been on the shelf for many many years and you get tire failure like this.

But if you buy them from tire rack, you don't get to see the code on the sidewall.

How long do tires last on the shelf before there considered old.

They're molded into the tire. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=11

To late to read any sidewall from that exact tire. It's gone and already replaced. Wasn't going to ask for it back either. I guess I can check the fronts but don't think that would apply totally. They were worn out pretty good and had little tread left on them. I am not stressing it since I got plenty of life out of them and were a good tire. Thanks for the info though. I will consider making note of that when I buy. The place I got them from was pretty legit and seemed to move tires very quick. Tony went with me and the place was packed for it not even being a weekend.

Tony can't read, he doesn't understand Henry, he is short and slow, LOL.

Tony took you to one of his Portuguese spots, now I see the issue. They don't know how to work on cars, its not there thing, LOL.

That's cool. The Conti tire you probably really want is the DW and not the DWS though. The S is for snow as well and is a softer compound that probably overheats in the Florida heat further causing the failure. That was pretty catastrophic failure of your tire. Even totally worn ones should just puncture not rip itself apart like that. Glad you were able to keep it under control and be safe though.

Yep. They don't even sell the DWS down here. I had these for one winter up there and they were fairly good in the snow. I think the tire must have started to run low for whatever reason and with the heat from that day and I was 3 hours into the drive it just ruin low, rubbed down and boom. It wasn't a sudden blow either. I had about 20 seconds or so of vibrations that I originally thought was the road then realized it was the tire. I need to keep a closer eye on tire pressure or finally get the tpms sensors installed.
