Default Need help Honda and Acura Mechanics please help.

My friend drive a 01 Acura TL and she's having a problem with the car and wanted to see if anyone has any idea where to start looking.

She tells me that after driving for awhile going home when she goes and parks she would put the car in reverse and accelerate and the car would shut off. She would start it up put it in reverse and shut off again. She has not Check engine light. And the car is already warm. Any one else encounter this problem?? Any ideas what is could be.

Please help me out.

Automatic.

Markus- I was afraid of that. I always heard they had tranny issues. Is that one of the symptoms?? She tells me that it doesn't slip drives fine.

I don't know if it is necessarily a big problem. My friend has a 1999 TL with an auto, and it began stalling in drive, it would just shut off. I completely forgot what the problem was but it certainly did not need a new transmission. I'll have to ask him what he had to replace, but now the car is working fine.

YES! That was what my friend replaced - the ignition switch and not the transmission when he had stalling issues. Everything was fine with it after that.

My parents 1999 TL had an ignition switch recall IIRC

The tranny was replaced eventually too

I know that w/ the oldsmobiles back then, the lockup always used to go bad.
If you disconnected the lockup, then the car would not shut off and work for quite a long time before tearing apart the trans.
not sure if you can even do this in the TL's, just throwing it out there...

Thanks guys I will work up the ladder and try the ignition switch and then see what happens.

Where is the ignition switch located in the TL?
