Default Moving to NJ -Help

I'm moving to NJ in February and am looking for advice on places to live. I'll be working in Annandale, NJ off Rt 78, and would like to avoid a commute over 35 minutes.

I am 24 and anticipate visiting NYC on various occasions. Coming from Indianapolis and Colorado I assume a much higher cost of living. Ideally I'd like to find a good mix of location, social life, and value ($$).

Any recommendations?

I live in Randolph about 32 miles from Annandale and very convenient to Route 78.
Randolph is in Morris county, just outside of Parsippany and Morristown. We are largely a suburban community and it is a nice place to live, but I'm not sure that there is enough social life for a 24 year old. Morristown would probably be better there are many more young people there.

If you can afford it, and don't mind a little longer commute, I would suggest a town closer to New York City like Hoboken, Ft. Lee, or maybe even Jersey City. If I was moving to NJ and and wanted some social life, that's where I'd look. Unfortunately, you will have a significant commute if you choose any of those towns.

I would say 30 minutes east of Annandale would be good.

You'll be in the best spot to hook up with the most active s2k club around

I live in Basking Ridge about 20 minutes east of Anandale right off 78... nice place to live but very pricey which is why my S2000 will always be bone stock...

What are you looking to spend for housing?

I'd like to spend no more than $1K/month on rent, as I'd rather buy if I'm going to be putting out more than that.

I understand that there may be limitations to what that will get me, but there is potential that I can get 2-3 others to share a place.

Is it possible to find homes for rent in the area?

Either way, I'm looking forward to getting in touch with the S2K owners in the area.

If you are working in Annandale stick to that area, it's nice! The closer to NYC the more you will pay... you are also only about 20 minutes from PA, you can move there and avoid a lot of the NJ $$$$$$$ but if you don't pay the $$$$$$ you don't get.... what do we get anyway?

One of our members AZWILDCATS sent me this listing... It's right in the town that you would be working and looks really nice.

Here is the link to my apartment complex...

The Mews at Annandale

Remember - if you decide to go with The Mews.. let me know so I can get the referral.

1k a month will not get you a house man. Not a good one at any rate.

I own a condo in Tinton Falls, two of my neighbors rent their two bedroom 1000sq ft condos for 1500-1800 per month.

A guy I used to work with rented a two bedroom (crappy) apartment in Belmar for $1200.

It may be cheaper NW of here, but its still pretty expensive unless you compare it to NYC.
