Default looking for a job..

i'm currently an auto tech at my uncles shop here in my town. for a kid my age im doing well but am looking to buy a place and get married in the next 2 years.

i've sent my application/resume in for a bunch of jobs with the city and one for coned.

i'm not looking into a union. construction, carpentry, masonry etc.

i have experience working with my hands and am a hard worker.

does anyone in metro have a hook up or somewhere to go from here?

hook me up!

Not a good time to be switching jobs right now. Right now, stay where you are and be glad you have to get up early in the morning to go to work.

i agree with ray.

i wouldnt leave my job unless it was for a secure city job.

ill keep my eye out but i know alot of union and non union guys getting laid off.

times aint pretty man.

i would just find a 2nd job off the books

also, if times get really bad, and you really want to change fields....do the following.

wait till you get laid off, or make yourself get laid off.
collect $405 a week and go to any trade you want to get in and learn it for 6 months. for free. no pay.

i would do that if i wasnt in a particular trade that i liked.

god dman, if i could do it all over, once i graduated hs i woulda went to a Construction company and asked them if i could work 40+ hours a week for free as an asistant project manager just so i could learn and then get a job

work experience > schooling and degrees

I sort of agree but ideally you would want both. I found that out when I was looking for another job 2 years ago. I found plenty of job openings that I could do well but the difference between having a degree and just having an experience is about $25,000+ a year. Without a degree, you would have to convinced them that you could do the job and THEN prove that you could do the job. The former is very hard to do without a piece of paper saying you could.
