Default I have a dealership question

I put a $100 deposit on a car on 12/15 and now I want to get it refunded. The dealership is saying that I have to come in to get the refund and that they can't do it over the phone.

Even though the dealership is 45 min away from me, I don't mind driving there to get the refund, I just feel like they are bullsh1tting me that they can't do it over the phone. Does this seem to be the case?

Out of all honesty you do have to go back to get your refund, even if you initially gave the deposit over the phone. You need to sign the slip on a return and most office managers (the people who bill everything out at a dealership) are quite finicky.

Does that include gas money?

Thanks guys, I figured I'd get a 2nd opinion before i drove to the dealership. Do you know if there is a time limit on the refund? By the time I get over there it will almost be a month since I put down the deposit.

Silverstone - I bought my S from Tarrytown in August 2005 from a young guy with red hair. I'll have to look up his name on the Bill of Sale.

I would believe if you do not go ahead and purchase the car they would refund the deposit. It is what I was always told but I'm sure Phil & Chris will chime in with their more reputable answer.

By the way, what are you hiding from us? Which car did you intend to purchase? Planned to leave the S2000 behind?

Haha no nothing crazy. I put a deposit on a '96 civic hatch to use as a daily driver instead of my S and I ended up buy S2kMarcus' Accord in the end.

I'm planning to keep my S as long as I can.

Yea I would think that they can't keep your deposit because its not the same as a sale transaction. Lets hope.......

Yea thats right Bill Loweree, yea he was a good guy. He didn't give me the hard sell. Plus the shop put the car on the lift for me to inspect underneath.

The only person that I didn't like was the guy that finalized the transaction with me after I was done with Bill. He was pretty rude to me and Bill. I think he just wanted to go home because it was getting late that night.
