a added 30 miles at 80-85 mph is not much time

Copied from the "Thursday Morning" thread.
Just an FYI: I confirmed last night with a local (trich1687) who travels 78W everyday that there is some single lane construction just West of Rt100 and then again at the Rt 61 interchange. The good thing is that we will probably be hitting these const. areas at the best possible time ~10 and 11 AM. Worst case scenario, Rt 22 parallels Rt 78 in that area. See ya there. |

Please let me know as this general area is where I planned to rendezvous with the caravan.

I thought we were meeting in Carlisle ? We will be there for sure.
I live in the Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton area aka the Lehigh Valley. I was planning on picking up the caravan along Rt78 near Dorney Park, where Rt 22, Rt 78 and Rt 309 all meet. Clear as mud? :( |
I am thinking of hoping off of 78 on exit 16 and taking 222 west over to 183 and taking that back up to 78 ... the drive through the park looks like it could be nice.
Going that way the roads will be a little slower for a distance ... but if 78 is as bad as it sounds we would avoid the construction, save time, and have a little scenic drive for a while. If 78 really is NOT that bad please tell me and we will not take the detour. |
The alternative route takes us off of 78 for a total distance of 42 miles, If we stay on 78 we travel 36 miles to make the same progress. So the alternative route adds 6 miles but totally avoids both areas on 78 that you warned about.

Traffic SHOULD be at a minimum around that time. And like I said, Rt 22 parallels Rt 78 that whole distance and could be used as a detour if absolutely necessary. I won't make the call, someone else has to. :( |
could you meet us right after the toll booth on nj/pa border and lead us through?
