Hotels in NYC
Hi, I live in Lewes, DE and would like to surprise my wife at Christmas with a trip to NYC in May of next year and take her to see the Jersey boys which is the music we grew up with. I am looking for a recommendation for a hotel as I have only been to NYC a few times. I would like a nice hotel either near St. Patricks where I stayed years ago or central park. I may opt to stay 2 nights and take in the sights as well as the show. A hotel with parking would be great but if not we will probably drive or take the train. I dont mind spending $$$ as long as the hotel is nice and the rooms are decent size. The OMNI near St. Patricks looked nice but I am looking for some help from you folks. Thanks for any help you can give me. Ray

I don't know how much you are looking to spend. As you are certainly well aware, many hotels in the city can cost $800 a night. I would recommend looking at The Lucerne, at 79th Street and Amsterdam. It's quite close to Central Park, and literally a block away from the Museum of Natural History. Prices are fairly reasonable ($300 per night or so).

Having just made the round-trip to Ocean City for a weekend of golf, I would strongly suggest taking the train from Wilmington. You'll save the hassle of the drive as well as the cost of parking in NYC which could be $40+/nt. Additionally, once your in the city, you will most likely be taking cabs/mass transit.
Have you bought the tickets yet....I would suggest you do that ASAP. Once Thanksgiving rolls around, everyone is buying ticket for Christmas/Holiday presents. Have you thought about a Saturday matinee - - - and then a nice dinner after the show?
I have stayed at the New York Palace (www.newyorkpalace.com). A great hotel. It is at the upper end of your range but I would recommend it.
Another option is The Fitzpatrick-Grand Central (http://www.fitzpatrickhotels.com/). Another place I have stayed. Irish owned, it is a very nice hotel in a central location.

I'm working on a package for 2 nights at the Belvedere Hotel which is on 48th & Broadway. Large Executive King room which has been fully renovated and great seats to see Jersey Boys (Mezzanine, center Row F, no obstructions) The package actually gives me one ticket free and the comments about this hotel have been positive. They do have paid parking so I will check out rates for the train. Nothing is cheap but thats NYC.

I signed up for the Belvedere package. Got some perks, early check-in and late check-out and discounted dinner the night of the show. My wife will be thrilled this Xmas as she loves New York and so do I. Thanks for all the great suggestions.
