help! formalwear in NYC?
Hey guys, my brother-in-law's getting married in Long Island on Monday, so I'm coming to NYC tomorrow night for a couple of days. I need to buy a white tux shirt (16.5/36) and a silver bow tie sometime on Friday. Can anyone recommend a good place to go in either the city, brooklyn, or queens?
Thanks!
Avi
ps I lived in NYC for 6 months a couple of years ago. nice town you've got there! not enough heroin so i moved back to baltimore...

... I do have a point collar tux shirt, but I was under the impression that it was proper to wear a wing-collar shirt with a bow tie. Looking around on the web however, I'm seeing lots of photos of point collar tux shirts with bow ties. Is that proper? hmm. maybe I'll just ask the groom. Still need the bow tie though. looks like Jos A Bank has some, but they're $75 with a cummerbund, damn.

Anyone have any insights into the point collar vs. wing collar issue?
Thanks!

I like Baltimore though!
Lowest cost of living, highest violent crime
Cost of living, health care among best of 20 metro areas surveyed in nation

it's got its pros and cons, but I like living in a suburb-like area of the city, 15 minute drive to work, no traffic, great health care, great schools, great Jewish community, and plus.... most of my family is here. one of the reasons I was born here!
now I'm waaaaaaay OT.

I prefer the wing collar (the chippnendale's look !!!)with a cumberbund - IF you don't have a gut... if you have a gut then take Dan's advise. The advantage of a vest is that you can take your jacket off and look good -- with a cumberbund if you take of the jacket it is like looking at the under layers of a construction project ....
My favorite tux is a double breasted tux -- I don't wear a vest or a cumberbund with it.
But anyway -- do you already have the tux ?
