Thumbs up Got ticketed driving someone else's car

I was ticketed for speeding in Suffolk county NY driving my sister's car. Does the violation follow the driver or car, or both? I'm willing the accept the consequences for my actions (paying the ticket, getting the DMV points, and paying the higher insurance premiums), but she shouldn't have to (unless you take into account the fact that she let me drive her car). Insurance premiums would probably rise on my policy, but would it affect hers? We have the same insurance company but are on different policies.

It won't affect her, only you and your license points, insurance etc..

Do you live in the same house?

the only tickets that go to a specific car are parking etc or red light cameras

Thanks guys. I wonder... if I got into an accident (my fault) driving someone else's car, whose rates would be affected? Using that same cut and dry principle, only my rates should go up.

It depends, what if you were licensed to drive, but dont have your own car. The claim would be put through on the insurance of the vehicle owner. Claims = payouts, payouts = raise in premiums. You would still have an accident on your driving record though, which would affect your premiums if you got a policy. The only way to know for sure is call your carrier & ask them.
