Default Crank Shaft Pulley Tool

Does anyone have the right tool to remove the crank shaft pulley? It is for 2011 Civic, which looks the same as the S. We tried Napa, Advance Auto, and Strause, none have to rent. They all said it can only be bought from Honda.

Impact gun and breaker bar didn't work. Some Civic guys suggested to wedge the breaker bar against something and then start the car. I don't know how safe that is, so we haven't tried that.

Your gonna need a 4-5 foot breaker bar on a 200lbs pull it will multiply it to 8-900lbs which is what your gonna need to break that thing loose or a 3/4" Air gun with a thick air line.

You'll be amazed at how much the breaker bar flexes before it breaks loose. And please use an impact socket with no extension(you lose torque with an extension), Chrome sockets will explode.

Good luck and be careful.

We are trying to put an aftermarket pulley so no warranty service here.

The impact gun that we have isn't strong enough apparently.

We got the breaker bar but we need something to hold the crank so it won't turn.

Old school trick- Pull plugs for cylinder #1 & #4 and stuff 1/4" rope through the spark plug holes into the cylinders at BDC. Stuff em leaving the end of the rope sticking out so you can retrieve it when done. The rope will keep the crank from turning.
Worked for me a few times after an OG mechanic showed me.

That's slightly worse than starting the car with the breaker bar wedge against something. That's not scary at all.
Thanks anyway John!

Ray take a look to see how the stock crank is balanced and sealed on the civic.

I've stayed away from aftermarket pulley's on a lot of cars due the them causing the crank to either leak or become unbalanced (depending on if its balanced internally or not)
